Harry Potter

So after 2 long nights of reading (I was only able to get my hands on the book Sunday night) I finally completed the 7th and final episode to the Harry Potter series. It only took me until 6 o'clock this morning to finish and, yes, I am at work running on 2 hours of sleep. But I must say, it is definately worth it. I thought the book was absolutely amazing. If you have any interest in the series and have not started reading, shame on you because you are really missing out. Anyone who wants to talk about it, leave comments. So if you haven't read it, don't look at what is being said so as not to ruin the ending for you.

THEY ALL TURN INTO DUCKS.

incidentally, everyone here is freaking out because a few people keep running around being like "HEY YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF HARRY POTTER?" and then you watch everyone proceed to beat that person up before they say anything. pretty amusing, i'd say. then again, i'm pretty bored and surrounded by high schoolers.

I just thought it would be fun for the people who read the book to point out interesting things you might have noticed or read. Here is one of the things I thought was interesting:

The spells that Harry and LV used when they fought at the very end were the same two spells they used when they fought in the 4th book.

PS SPOILERS.

point 1: the protection that ultimately saved everyone in the castle who was still alive at the end was the same one that saved harry to start with

point 2: poor teddy lupin. he's like harry part deux. actually, more like neville part deux, since i'm guessing he lived with his grandmom.

point 3: speaking of neville, look at how much more similar to harry he got in the book...anything related to the whole "other boy born at the end of july" prophecy bit? sooo glad he got all badass.

disappointment 1: the last word of the book was not scar.

disappointment 2: almost the entire epilogue. where is anyone besides the trio and draco?

creepy moment 1: snape asking harry to look at him while he died so he could see his eyes (lily's eyes).

I really liked the allusions to the prophesy and Neville becoming awesome too.

I wish JKR would have atleast told us the professions they had or something and what ever happened to Luna? I became kinda partial to her by the end. I think the epilogue needed longer.

I also thought the complexity of the plot, e.g. Deathly Hallows and Horcruxes, and dying, but not dying...(we all knew part of Voldermorts soul was in HP) was pretty cool and well written, I didn't really run into any loose ends...

But the book still rocked my socks...i read it in one day.
I am kinda sad that it ended, but am content with the ending (before the epilogue).

I hope y'all enjoyed it!

i love the whole thing and just finishedl ast night so havent had much time to digest. but also agree that the epilogue didnt seem like her- i think she wouldve rather done nothing, but then its left open for a sequel so she had to yknow?

Ok, so I also stayed up all night reading it, but first I re-read all of the first 6 books. Try to out-nerd that!

Analysis-wise, I was glad that both Malfoy and Snape didn't turn out to be one hundred percent bad guys - I think it would have been overly simplistic/ predictable/ not like the real world. As for criticism, I think that JK definitely took some inspiration (if you'd like to call it that) from other fantasy books. Example: the locket Horcrux weighing people down, bringing out the worst in them, and making them lash out at their friends is almost straight-up what happened with Frodo in Lord of the Rings.

Oh, and I just about shat myself when that snake came out of Bathilda Bagshot.

I missed the LOTR reference but you're absolutely right.
